16,800 gallons of sewage overflows in East Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF)– Nearly 17,000 gallons of sewage spilled onto a street in East Baltimore after heavy rains Friday, officials say.The Baltimore City Department of Public Works responded to an overcharged sewer main spill on E. Chase Street near N. Broadway. Officials say the spill was initially addressed at 6:45 p.m. after water started to spill out of a manhole.

The Baltimore City Health Department and the Maryland Department of the Environment was notified of the overflows.

Cleanup related to the spill concluded at 9:30 p.m., emergency warning signs were posted for residents in the area.

Due to possible pollution DPW are encouraging residents to avoid contact with urban streams.
