Six area schools recognized with Blue Ribbon honor

BALTIMORE (WBFF)– Six Maryland schools are being honored by the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015 for their overall academic excellence.

The schools recognized Tuesday are Anne Arundel County’s Lake Shore Elementary School, Severna Park Elementary School; Baltimore County’s Pine Grove Elementary School; Frederick County’s Kemptown Elementary School; Harford County’s Fountain Green Elementary and Washington County Smithsburg High School.

“These six schools proudly represent the outstanding education taking place in schools and classrooms throughout Maryland,” said Interim State Superintendent of Schools Jack R. Smith. “We congratulate everyone involved, from the students to the teachers, to the administrators, to the parents and communities.”

The U.S. Department of Education will honor the 420 schools during a ceremony taking place on November 9 and 10 in Washington, D.C.
