Boater found dead after trying to retrieve a hat
EDGEWATER, Md. (WBFF) — Emergency responders have recovered the body of a man who drowned in the South river after jumping in the water Saturday evening, according to Anne Arundel County fire department.
Divers recovered the body of 47-year-old Joseph Vincent Rossi, around 10 a.m., after resuming their search efforts around the surrounding waters of the South River near Selby Bay.
The incident was reported Saturday evening about five minutes after 7 p.m.
Officials said that operator of the boat called 911 and informed them that a man lost his hat, jumped out of the boat to retrieve it and disappeared.
It is believed that he was not wearing a safety vest at the time of the incident.
Search crews with the Anne Arundel County fire and the Maryland Natural Resources police conducted the initial search.
Rossi’s body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, says the MDNRP.
