Father and son recovering after being shot during domestic dispute

DUNDALK, Md. (WBFF)– A Dundalk father and his 7-year-old son are in the hospital after police say his wife and the child’s mother shot them during an argument outside of their home Saturday night.

The accused shooter, a 30-year-old woman, is now in custody and is being evaluated by police and mental health professionals.

“I can’t even imagine what she was thinking to do something so severe to pull the trigger,” neighbor DeAnn Trice said. “That was heartbreaking. I didn’t understand why he was screaming or what happened.”

Just after 7 p.m., Baltimore County police responded to a report for shots fired on School Lane near Bayard Avenue. Police say the 31-year-old father was in the process of taking the child in the home when his wife pulled out a gun, striking the father in the arm and the son in the hip. Just before that the father and mother were engaged in a verbal custody dispute.

Both have non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

“The husband decided she did not want the son to leave with her because of some of the issues that she’s having, and at that time, she pulled out a gun. We’re not sure where she got a gun at right now. We’re still investigating right now,” Jennifer Peach of Baltimore County Police said. “The shot initially struck the husband in the arm, and then that bullet continued on and struck the 7-year-old child in both the hip and the hand.”

The Baltimore County Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
