Man charged with homicide in the death of a 2-year-old boy

ODENTON, Md. (WBFF)– A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the beating death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, police said.

Dason Darius Hogan was taken without incident Tuesday at the same hotel that the alleged incident took place and is facing a myriad of charges in connection to the death of Michael Lee-Ashley Stem. If Hogan is found guilty he will face the following charges, first-degree murder, second-degree murder, child abuse first-degree death, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a call about a possible cardiac incident at the Royal Inn on Annapolis Road in Odenton shortly after 11:30 a.m., Monday.

When paramedics arrived, they found Michael Stem in some type of stress. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but was reported deceased a short time later.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and ruled that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Anne Arundel County Homicide detectives took control of the scene to investigate the cause of Stem’s death. In doing so they conducted interviews with family members and those who knew the child. With an executed search warrant they were able to obtain items from the hotel room that officers deemed of evidentiary value.

Hogan, the boyfriend of the mother was looking after the children after she left for work. Surveillance video showed Hogan walking the children to the bus stop, shortly returning back to the hotel with Stem. The surveillance video also showed no one entering or leaving the hotel room until the authorities arrived.

Police say conflicting statement from Hogan during the interview lead to his arrest.

Anyone with any additional information on this case is urged to contact the Anne Arundel County Homicide Unit at 410-222-4731.

Authorities say this is the first homicide in Anne Arundel County.
